The Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School Soccer Program has hosted charity tournaments for years but 2016 was the inaugural 2016 FHC Get’em in Gear Football Festival for both Boys and Girls teams. Hosted over two days, the tournament saw high schools from three school boards across the GTA compete against each other in the spirit of goodwill. As part of the tournament, coaches were asked to share information about Get’em in Gear with their players and for players to donate a piece of equipment that they were no longer in need of. The response was overwhelming with players donating jerseys, shirts, shorts, socks, boots and goalkeeper gloves.
On the pitch, the action was top quality with two OFSAA teams competing. The 2016 FHC Girls Get’em in Gear Football Festival was won by York Region’s Holy Cross Crusaders, while Michael Power/St. Joseph Trojans of Toronto captured the Boys’ championship. On and off the field, the tournament was a great success as the coaches and players showed how we can come together to do great things for our soccer community around the world.
